Antonio Brown and Drew Brees

Will Saints sign Antonio Brown?

According to NFL reporter Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter free Agent wide receiver, Antonio Brown is working out for the New Orleans Saints. Brown entered the 2019 NFL season as an Oakland Raider before being released for conduct detrimental to the team after confronting general manager Mike Mayock. Hours after Brown’s release from the Raiders, the New England Patriots signed Brown to a one-year deal with a $9 million signing bonus. Only two weeks later, amidst accusations of sexual assault and rape allegations from a September 11 civil lawsuit surrounding threatening text messages leaked from an accuser, Brown is let go again.

Despite all the baggage and controversy following Antonio Brown, it’s hard to deny his talent on the football field; talent the saints and perhaps other teams are willing to take a chance on. Champions of the NFC South the Saints have already punched their ticket to the playoffs. In consecutive years, the Saints have exited from the playoffs dramatically. From the touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs in the final seconds of regulation to lose to the Minnesota Vikings in the 2017 NFC Divisional round, to the 2018 clear pass interference penalty ignored by the referees against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Conference Championship Game. With Drew Brees possibly nearing the end of his Hall of Fame career and unfortunate outcomes the last two years, maybe Antonio Brown is the spark the team needs get over the hump to win a second Super Bowl Championship.
